The Plastic Recycling Granulator is a high speed machine that cuts smaller sized, thinner plastics into flakes and fine regrinds. Because of its high rotational speed, the operator must be careful not to have hard contaminants such as metal or rocks in the input stream. Metals such as nuts and bolts can easily damage the machine, including very easily chipping the cutting blade. To ensure that no metal is present, we recommend adding a magnetic suspension separator above the conveyor system.
Plastic shredders, while also used for plastic recycling in reduced sizes, are lower speed, more robust machines capable of cutting large pieces of plastic. They are also more tolerant of contaminants. For this reason, plastic shredders are often used to pre-cut large pieces of plastic into smaller sizes suitable for use in plastic pelletizers. The pelletizer then further reduces the plastic into flakes or regrinds it.
